The current flowing through a resistor connected in a circuit and the potential difference developed across its ends are as shown in the diagram by milliammeter and voltmeter readings respectively:

What are the least counts of these meters ?
What is the resistance of the resistor ?

Answer:

(a) Least account of ammeter = 10mA

Least account of voltmeter = 0.1V

(b) V = 2.4

l = 0.25A

r =  \frac{v}{i}

r =  \frac{2.4}{0.25}

r = 9.6Ω

The function of a resistor is to oppose the electric current through it. This is called electrical resistance, and is measured in the unit ohm. The resistance can be calculated with Ohms law, when the current is known and the voltage drop is measured: The resistance of a resistor is dependent on its material and shape.
