Given:-

  • Curved Surface Area of the cylinder = 88 cm²
  • Height = 14 cm

To find:-

Diameter of Base of cylinder.

Solution:-

Firstly as we are given with the CSA and Height of the cylinder, we will find out the radius of the cylinder.

We know,

CSA of a cylinder = 2πrh sq.units

Hence,

\sf{88 = 2 \times \dfrac{22}{7}\times r \times 14}

=> \sf{88 = 44 \times r \times 2}

=> \sf{88 = 88r}

=> \sf{\dfrac{88}{88} = r}

=> r = 1 cm

Now,

We know that radius of a circle is always equal to the half of it's diameter.

Hence,

Diameter = 2 × radius

= Diameter = 2 × 1 = 2 cm

Therefore,

Diameter of the base of cylinder is 2 cm

Other formulas related to cylinder:-

  • Volume of cylinder = πr²h cu.units
  • TSA of cylinder = 2πr(r + h) sq.units

How did I solve?

Firstly we were given the CSA (Curved Surface Area) of the cylinder and height of the cylinder from where we got the value of r i.e., radius. Now we know radius is equal to half of the diameter. So diameter will be double of the radius. Hence we multiplied the radius with two and got the diameter of base of the cylinder.
