Tetrachloride iodide Ion:

I {Cl_4}^{ - }

Iodine = 7 valence electron

Chlorine = 7 valence electron.

  • Total valence electrons in Tetrachloride iodide Ion:

I {Cl_4}^{ - }  = 7 + 4(7) = 36

It means number of Iodine molecule is 1 and Chlorine molecule is 4 and both molecule has same valency .

  • The hybridization is :

I {Cl_4}^{ - } =sp³d²

It has four bond pairs and lone pairs . It has octahedral geometry.

  • Shape of the Ion - square planar structure.

Hence,

The d-orbitals which are involved in hybridisation of central atom of Tetrachloride iodide Ion is Sp³d².
