so from the given data let the consumption as 'x'.

so,

120:6::86:x

$\frac{120}{6} = \frac{85}{x}$

$120×x = 6×85$

$x = \frac{510}{120}$

$x = 4.5$

hence 4.5 kg of food is required if the number of students reduced to 85.

and 85s = 6/120×85 = 4.25 kg
