This is play is a satire on social society and the moral values of a being. In this story, Grand pa was supposed to be dead ( which was later disapproved) by both the sisters. He was treated as burden by both of his daughters (Amelia and Elizabeth).
Both the sisters were materialistic , possessive and insensitive in attitude and behaviour. Both were worried about collecting the things of Grandpa only. Both the sisters were trying the over show each other, there was not a sign of any fatherly feeling toward Grandpa.
So in this way The Dear Departed is a satire on our narrow minded society.
Hope this will help you....
Thank yaa.... :)
