the decay of proton to neutrons is possible only inside the nucleus. why ?

because proton are tightly attached with neutron so if they decay they must bi inside nucleus as they can not be taken out from atom as it will requirea tremendous amount of energy which can not be approach able

because inside the nucleus protons and neutrons works under the action of strong nuclear force and exchange Pion particles.
