 \frac{23}{8 \times 5}  \\ =  \frac{23}{ {2}^{3}  \times  {5}^{1} }

when denominator is expressed in the form

 {2}^{m}  \times  {5}^{n}

the degree (maximum power) of the denominator is the maximum number of terms a decimal expansion will terminate after.

In this case, since the denominator is of the form

2³ x 5¹, the degree of the denominator is 3

Hence, decimal expansion of 23/8 will terminate after 3 terms.
