Given data : A ball of mass 40 g which falls from a height of 50 m.

  • Mass, m = 40 g
  • Height, h = 50 m

Solution : To find potential energy of ball :

Here we know the ball is falling from a height of 50 m.

Due to free falling acceleration of ball is equal to acceleration due to gravity.

∴ acceleration of ball = 9.8 m/s²

Now we use formula of potential energy:

⟹ Potential energy = mgh

⟹ Potential energy = 40 * 9.8 * 50

⟹ Potential energy = 392 * 50

⟹ Potential energy = 19600 joule

Answer : Hence potential energy of ball is 19600 joule.
