The denominater of a fraction ia 1 less than 3 times its numerator . If the numerator and denominater are increased by 3, the fraction become 1/2

Nr=x

Dr=y

y=(x-I) 3

y=3x-3

3x-y=3. (i)

x +3/y+3=1/2

2(x+3)=y +3.

2x+6=y +3

2x-y=-3. (2)

deduct (2) from (1)

x = 6 This may be put in (i)

18-y=3

y=15

fraction.x/y=6/15=2/5
