let the no.s be x and y respectively. Given that :

x + 7 = y ………………equation 1

and (x+ 17)/ (y-5) = 5 …………………equation 2

take value of y from equation 2 :

(x + 17) / ((x + 7) - 5) = 2

(x + 24) / ( x + 2) = 2

(x + 24) = 2 ( x + 2)

x+ 24 = 2x + 4

24 - 4 = 2x - x

20 = x

X = 20 , so y = x + 7 = 27

So, x= 20 and y = 27

The rational number is : x/y = 20/ 27
