Answer:

Let the numerator be a and hence denominator, being 5 more than numerator, should be a + 5.

Fraction = a/(a+5)

According to the question: if the numerator is increased by 3 and denominator is decreased by 1 the new fraction reduces to 6/7.

= > (a+3)/(a+5-1)= 6/7

= > 7(a+3) = 6(a+4)

= > 7a + 21 = 6a + 24

= > a = 3

Hence,

Fraction is a/(a+5) = 3/(3+5) =3/8
