Solution

Given :-

  • The denominator of a fraction is 2 more than the numerator
  • 1 is subtracted from the numerator and 1 is added to the denominator, the fracton becomes 1 : 2

Find :-

  • Fraction

Explanation

Let,

  • Denominator be = x
  • Numerator be = y

According to question,

Case 1.

==> x = 2 + y

==> x - y = 2__________(1)

Case 2

==> (y - 1)/(x +1) = 1/2

==> 2(y-1) = (x + 1)

==> 2y - 2 = x + 1

==> x - 2y = -3__________(2)

Sub. equ(1) & equ(2)

==> -y + 2y = 2 + 3

==> y = 5

keep in equ(1)

==> x - 5 = 2

==> x = 2 + 5

==> x = 7

Hence

  • Fraction will be (y/x) = 5/7
