2x = x + 8 - 4

2x = x + 4

2x - x = 4

x = 4.

Substitute x = 4 in (1), we get

The fraction = 4/7.


Therefore the original fraction = 4/7.


Verification:

(x + 2)/(x + 3) + 5 = 1/2

(4 + 2)/(4 + 3) + 5 = 1/2

6/7 + 5 = 1/2
