• Let Numerator be M.

» The Denominator of a fraction is (equal to) 4 more (plus) than numerator

• Denominator = M + 4

» If Denominator is increased by 1 and Numerator is decreased by 1 then the fraction becomes 4 : 7.

Now..

Denominator = M + 4 + 1 = M + 5

Numerator = M - 1

Then their ratio will be 4 : 7

  • A.T.Q.

=> \dfrac{M\:-\:1}{M\:+\:5} = \dfrac{4}{7}

Cross-multiply them

=> 7(M - 1) = 4(M + 5)

=> 7M - 7 = 4M + 20

=> 7M - 4M = 20 + 7

=> 3M = 27

=> M = 9

We have to find Fraction.

Fraction = \dfrac{Numerator}{Denominator}

Numerator = M = 9

Denominator = M + 4 = 9 + 4 = 13

Fraction = \dfrac{9}{13}
