Step-by-step explanation:

Given:-

The denominator of a fraction is 8 more than the numerator. If 5 is added to the numerator and denominator the fraction becomes ½.

To find:-

Find the fraction.

Solution:-

Let the Numerator be X

Then, the Denominator=Numerator+8=X+8

If 5 is added to numerator then it becomes=X+5

If 5 is added to denominator then it becomes

=>X+8+5

=>X+13

Then the fraction=Numerator/Denominator

=>(X+5)/(X+13)=1/2

On applying cross multiplication then

=>2(X+5)=X+13

=>2X+10=X+13

=>2X-X=13-10

=>X=3

Numerator=3

Denominator=X+8=3+8=11

Fraction=3/11

Answer:-

The fraction=3/11

Check:-

If 5 is added to both 3 and 11 then fraction=8/16=1/2
