Question:-

  • The denominator of a fraction is one less than twice the numerator. If the numerator decreased by 3 becomes 1/7 find the fraction.

To Find:-

  • Find the fraction.

Solution:-

Denominator of a fraction is one less than twice the numerator. If the numerator decreased by 3 becomes 1/7.

\tt\implies \:  \dfrac{x - 3}{2x - 1} = \dfrac { 1 } { 7 }

\tt\implies \: 7( x - 3 ) = 1( 2x - 1 )

\tt\implies \: 7x - 21 = 2x - 1

\tt\implies \: 7x - 2x = 21 - 1

\tt\implies \: 5x = 20

\tt\implies \: x = \dfrac { 20 } { 5 }

\tt\implies \: x = 4

Hence,

  • Numerator is 4
  • Denominator is 2( 4 ) - 1 = 9

mk7732931: the answer was supposed to be 4/7
mk7732931: the answer at the back of the book is 4/7
mk7732931: all the sum is correct but at last...2×4 =8 and we had to subtract it...so 7...
