The denominator of a rational number is 4 less than numerator .if 11 is added to numerator and 1 is subtracted denominator new rational numbers become 7/3 find the rational number

Answer:

let the numerator be x and denominator be y so the rational no.=x/y

now according to the question y=x-4 ......1

and (x+11)/(y-1)=7/3...........2

now putting equation 1 in equation 2 we get that

(x+11)/(x-4-1)=7/3.

now 3x+33=7x-35 ..... so x=17 and hence y= 17-4 I.e 13

so rational no. = 17/13...
