Let the required rational number be (N/D), where N= numerator and D= denominator.

By question, D = N-5...........(1)

Again, (N-5)/(D+1) = 7/2.......(2)

From (2), we have ,

2(N-5) = 7(D+1)

Or, 2N-10= 7D+7

Or, 2N-7D = 7+10

Or, 2N-7D = 17..........(3)

Now using equation (1) in (3), we get

2N-7(N-5) =17

Or, 2N-7N+35 = 17

Or, -5N= 17-35

Or, -5N = -18

Therefore, N = 18

Again, using it in (1), we get

D= N-5 = 18-5 =13.

Therefore, required rational number(N/D) is 13/18.
