Let us assume, x is the numerator and y is the denominator of the rational number.

Given:

y = x + 5
y - x = 5  -------------1

also given:
(x + 3) / (y + 3) = 1/2
2 (x + 3) = y + 3
2x + 6 = y + 3
y - 2x = 3 --------------2

Subtract equation 2 from equation 1

x = 2

Therefore, y = x + 5 = 2 + 5 = 7

The rational number = x/y = 2/7
