Answer:

Dear Friend,

In your question you asked to apply the worded equation you gave and to find the number you obtained.

You will find your answer over here...

Let the numerator be x.

Then denominator would be x+8.

Equation formed...

x/x+8

=>x+17/(x+8)-1

=>x+17/x+7

Since you have not given the number obtained, I would surely tell what to do next.

When you get the obtained number, equalize it with the equation we have got and find the value of x.

Do not forget to put the value of x in the numerator and the denominator.

Hope it helped

Question:-

The denominator of a rational number is greater than its numerator by 8. If the numerator is increased by 17 and the denominator is decreased by 1, the number obtained is 3/2. Find the rational number.

Solution:-

let numerator be x

The denominator = x+8

=x+17/x+8-1=3/2

=x+17/x+7=3/2

=2(x+17)=3(x+7)

=2x+34=3x+21

=34-21=3x-2x

=13=x

=> x/x+8

=13/21
