Answer:

So here let us consider numerator to be = x

So the denominator is = x + 3

That means the number is  \frac{x}{x+3}

In the second case, numerator is doubled and denominator is reduce by 1.

SO new numerator is = 2x

New denominator = x +3 - 1 = x+2

So the new number is  \frac{2x}{x+2}

But, it is given that, the new number is 10/7, so

 \frac{2x}{x+2} = 10/7 [cross multiply]

10x+20 = 14x

10x-14x = -20

-4x = -20

4x = 20

x = 20/4

x = 5

Earlier I mentioned that the number is \frac{x}{x+3}

Replace x with 5,

\frac{5}{5+3}

= 5/8

Hope it helps,
