let  a/b is the fraction,

b-7=a

b=a+7

a+17/b-5=2

a+17/a+7-5=2

a+17/a+2=2

a+17=2a+4

a-2a=4-17

-a=-13

a=13

a = 13

b = a+7 = 13+7 = 20

So, the rational number is 13/20.
