Answer:-

Let the fraction be x/y.

Given:

The denominator is 7 less than the numerator.

y = x - 7 -- equation (1).

And,

If numerator is decreased by 2 and denominator is increased by 1 , the fraction becomes 5/3.

→ (x - 2)/(y + 1) = 5/3

On cross multiplication we get,

→ 3(x - 2) = 5(y + 1)

Putting the value of y from equation (1) we get,

→ 3x - 6 = 5(x - 7 + 1)

→ 3x - 6 = 5x - 30

→ - 6 + 30 = 5x - 3x

→ 2x = 24

→ x = 24/2

→ x = 12

Substitute x value in equation (1)

→ y = 12 - 7

→ y = 5

Hence, the required fraction(x/y) is 12/5.
