The denominator of fraction is greater than the numerator by four. If 1 is subtracted from numerator and 3 is added to, denominator the value of fraction abtained is 1/3. Find the original fraction.​

Answer:

D = N + 4

N - 1 = 1

D + 3 3

Now Cross Multiplying

3(N - 1) = 1(D +3)

3N - 3 = D + 3

Now substituting the value of D from the first equation.

3N - 3 = (N + 4) + 3

3N - N = 4 + 3 + 3

2N = 10

N = 5

Therefore, D = 5 + 4 = 9

So, original fraction is 5/9
