The rational Number is x/ x+8 --------- (i)

according to the question ,

x + 17 / x+ 8 - 1 = 2/3

x+17 / x+7 = 2/3

2(x+7) = 3(x+17)

2x +14 = 3x +51

-51 + 14 = 3x - 2x

- 37 = x  i.e x = -37  

 

now  substitute - 37 in eq (i)                

-37/-37+8

The rational number is - 37/-29
