Let , the rational number be " x/y "

Given ,

The denominator of rational number is greater than its numerator by 8

y = x + 8 -- (i)

and

If numerator is increased by 17 and denominator is deceased by 1 then the number obtained is 3/2

(x + 17)/(y - 1) = 3/2

2x + 34 = 3y - 3

2x - 3y = -37

2x - 3(x + 8) = -37 {°.° y = x + 8}

2x - 3x - 24 = -37

-x = -13

x = 13

Put the value x = 13 in eq (i) , we get

y = 13 + 8

y = 21

  \therefore \sf \underline{The \:  rational \:  number  \: is  \: </p><p> \frac{13}{21} }
