The denominator of a rational no. is greater than the numerator 8.if the numerator is increased by 17 and the denominator is increased by 1 ,the no. obtained 3/2.find the rational no.

Solution →

Let the numerator be x

Then denominator will be x + 8

Then,

Numerator → x + 17

Denominator → x + 8 + 1

According To Question →

x + 17 3

x + 9      2

Cross Multiplication

2 ( x + 17 ) = 3 ( x + 9 )

2x + 34 = 3x + 27

2x - 3x = 27 - 34

-x = -7

x = 7

The Rational Number was →

  x

x + 8

  7

  7 + 8

7

  15

Answer:

Let the numerator be x.

So denominator=x+8

Step-by-step explanation:

A.T.Q

x+17/x+8-1=3/2

=>x+17/x+7=3/2

=>2(x+17)=3(x+7) (cross multiplication)

=>2x+34=3x+21

=>2x-3x=21-34

=>-x=-13

=>x=13

Denominator=13+8

=21

Rational number=13/21
