Given :  The density of a metal is 10.88 ×10³ kg/m³

To Find : the relative density of the metal

Solution:

The density of a metal is 10.88 ×10³ kg/m³

1 kg = 1000 g = 10³ kg

1 m = 100 cm

=> 1m³ = 100³ cm³

=> 1 m³ = 10⁶ cm³

10.88 ×10³ kg/m³  = 10.88 * 10³ * 10³ / 10⁶  g/cm³

= 10.88 g/cm³

Density of water = 997 kg/m³  ≈ 1000 kg / m³

Density of water ≈ 1 g/cm³

Relative density is the ratio of the density of a substance to the density of a standard, usually water for a liquid or solid and air for a gas.

relative density of an object   = Density of the object / Density of water

Hence relative density of the metal = 10.88/1  = 10.88

relative density of the metal is 10.88

relative density is unitless
