As the ice melts away, this ice-contact stratified drift slumps and partially collapses to form stagnant ice deposits. Isolated mounds of bedded sands and gravels deposited in this manner are called kames. Kame terraces form in a similar manner but between the lateral margin of a glacier and the valley wall.
