The depression in the retina of the eye which lodges only the cones is called "fovea centralis" or central "fovea".

This is the region in the eye with sharpest eyesight. This region is like a small pit or depression in the macula of the retina.

The different layers of the retina are absent at this particular spot or slightly move aside to create space for light to directly fall on the cones in this region. Thus, it creates a “clear” and “sharp image”.
