An Electromotive Force or EMF is said to be induced when the flux linking with a conductor or coil changes.

According to Faraday's law of electromagnetic induction, whenever there is a relative space (or) time variation between magnetic field and set of conductors (coil) , an emf will be induced.

It can be mainly classified as :

Statically induced emf

Dynamically induced emf

Basic requirements to generate emf:

Magnetic field

Set of conductor

Relative variation in space or time between magnetic field and set of conductors.the device in which induced emf is statisticaly induced emf

1

Statically induced emf:

It is the emf induced across the conductors available inside a time varying magnetic field. (Both conductors and magnetic field is stationary)

Ex: Transformer

This can be further divided into 2 types

Self-induced emf : emf which is induced in the coil (conductors) due to the change of flux produced by it linking with its own turns.

Mutually induced emf emf which is induced in the coil due to the change of flux produced by another coil, linking with it.

Dynamically induced emf:1

Dynamically induced emf:

In this type , the magnetic field system is kept stationary, and the conductor is moving, or the magnetic field system is moving, and the conductor is stationary thus by following either of the two process the conductor cuts across the magnetic field and the emf is induced in the coil.

Ex: DC generator

• Rotational induced emf also comes under this category. In which both magnetic field and conductor rotating. Emf is proportional to the relative velocity between magnetic field and conductors.

Direction of dynamically induced emf can be found by Fleming right hand rule.
