Let the principal be Rs a

Time = 2 years

Rate of interest = 20 p.c.p.a

Now,

Amount = P ( 1 + r/100)^n

= a( 1 + 20 /100)^2

= a ( 1 + 1/ 5)^2

= a ( 6/5)^2

= 36a/25

Compound interest = Amount - Principal

= 36a/25 - a

= 11a/25

Now,

Simple interest = a × 20 × 2 /100

= 2a/5

According to question,

CI - SI = 2

=> 11a/25 - 2a/5 = 2

=> ( 11a - 10a)/ 25 = 2

=> a = 50

Principal = Rs 50
