The diagonal of a rectangular field is 9 metre more than the shorter side. If the difference between the longer and shorter side is 1 metre, find the sides of field. ​

Let say Shorter Side = L m

Longer Side = L + 1 m

Diagonal = L + 9 m

Diagonal² = Shorter Side² + Longer Side²

=> (L+9)² = L² + ( L+1)²

=> L² + 81 + 18L = L² + L² + 1 + 2L

=> L² - 16L - 80 = 0

=> L² - 20L + 4L - 80 = 0

=> L (L -20) + 4 (L -20) = 0

=> (L-20) ( L +4) = 0

L = 20 m  as L can not be negative

Shorter Side = 20 m

Longer Side = 20 + 1 = 21 m

Diagonal = 20 + 9 = 29 m
