area of a square= side x side

= 0.2x0.2

=0.04

1m = 100cm

so, 0.2m = 20cm

let in side of square ABCD be X

AB = BC = CD = DA ----------- 1 (all sides of square are congruent)

In Triangle ABC

Angle ABC = 90° -------all angles of square are 90°

AB = BC = X. -------- ( from 1)

by pythagoras theorem

BC^2 = AB^2 + BC^2

20^2 = X^2 +X^2

400 = 2X^2

200 = X^2

X = 10√2 

Therefore AB = BC = 10√2 

Area of Square = side^2

= ( 10√2 )^2

= 400 cm².
