given the length of the diagonal of the square = 16cm

by Pythagoras theorem we get,

diagonal² = side² + side² (it can be applied only for square. here diagonal is the hypotenuse and sides are the base and perpendicular respectively)

➡ 16² = 2side²

➡ 256 = 2side²

➡ 256/2 = side²

➡ 128 = side²

➡ side = √128cm or 11.3cm (approximately)

Diagonal of square = √2a² = 16 cm.

=>2a²=256 cm²

=>a²=128 cm²

Hence,a=√128 cm.

=>a=8√2 cm.
