The diagonal of a square is 7 cm. So what is the length of its side ?​

Solution -

We have diagonal of a square, i.e., 7 cm.

Since, all sides of a square are equal in length.

Then,

  • Let each side of the square be x.

As we can see in the figure that, in right angled triangle ADC.

  • Height = x
  • Base = x
  • Hypotenuse = 7cm

Applying Pythagoras theorem

⇢ AC² = AD² + DC²

⇢ (7)² = (x)² + (x)²

⇢ 49 = x² + x²

⇢ 2x² = 49

⇢ x² = 49/2

⇢ x² = 24.5

⇢ x = √24.5

x = 4.94 cm (approx)

Hence,

  • Each side of the square is of 4.95 cm (approx) or 5cm.
