as we know that ,

the diagonals of the rhombus are perpendicular to each other they form right angle there.  

so in in rhombus ABCD ,with centre O

       AOD = 90°

    THUS by pythagoras theorem ,

            AD² = AO ² + DO ²

                  = 16² + 12²

                  = 256 + 144

            AD ² = √ 400

              AD  =20 CM

Perimeter of rhombus = 4 * side

                                    =4* 20

                                    =80
