The diagram below shows a circuit containing a lamp L, a voltmeter and an ammeter. The voltmeter reading is 3 V and the ammeter reading is 0.5 A.; (i) What is the resistance of the lamp?; (ii) What is the power of the lamp?
As we know that
Current = Voltage /Resistance
=> I = V/R
I = 0.5 A
V = 3 V
=> 0.5 = 3/R
=> R = 6 Ω
resistance of the lamp = 6 Ω
power of the lamp = VI = 3 *0.5 = 1.5W
or V²/R = 3²/6 = 9/6 = 1.5W
or I²R = (0.5)²*5 = 1.5W
power of the lamp = 1.5W
