The diagram shows a circuit with three identical lamps.
The ammeter, A1, shows a reading of 1.5 A.
a) Indicate on the diagram where you would insert a switch so that it will
switch on or off lamps L2 and L3, but will not affect lamp L1.
b) What name is given to this arrangement of connecting lamps?
c) What will be the reading on ammeter A2?
d) What will be the reading on the voltmeter?

Answer:

a.The switch should be placed between  L1 and L2 so L1 won' t be affected.

b.Parallel combination.

c.Since bulbs are identical  and Current varies in parallel,

reading of the ammeter A2 will be 1.5/3

=0.5A

d.Voltage is the same in parallel combination,

therefore, V=6V+6V

=12V.

Given : diagram shows a circuit with three identical lamps.

The ammeter, A1, shows a reading of 1.5 A.

To Find : a) I where you would insert a switch so that it will  switch on or off lamps L2 and L3, but will not affect lamp L1.

b) What name is given to this arrangement of connecting lamps?

c) What will be the reading on ammeter A2?

d) What will be the reading on the voltmeter?

Solution:

Switch will be inserted below L1  and above L2  so that it would not affect L1 but switch ON/OFF L2 and L3

arrangement of connecting lamps is Parallel connection

All  lamps are identical hence Equal current will flow all bulbs

A1 shows total Current

Hence   Current though L2  =  Total / 3

Reading in A2  = 1.5/3

=> Reading in A2 = 0.5 A

Reading in Voltmeter = (6 - (-6)) = 12V

As in parallels voltage will be same in each .
