To identify:

X , Y , Z parts of the concave mirror?

Identification:

X is the PRINCIPAL AXIS.

  • The principal axis of a concave mirror is an imaginary line passing through the centre of curvature, focus and the pole of the concave mirror.

Y is the RADIUS OF CURVATURE.

  • Radius of curvature is the radius of the glass sphere from which the concave mirror has been cut out.

Z is the FOCUS.

  • Focus is a point on the Principal Axis of the mirror through which paraxial light rays after reflection from the concave mirror \rm pa{s}s through.

  • In case of concave mirrors, the focal length is considered to be negative as per sign convention with respect to cartesian co-ordinates.

Answer:

X is the PRINCIPAL AXIS.

The principal axis of a concave mirror is an imaginary line passing through the centre of curvature, focus and the pole of the concave mirror.

Y is the RADIUS OF CURVATURE.

Radius of curvature is the radius of the glass sphere from which the concave mirror has been cut out.

Z is the FOCUS.

Focus is a point on the Principal Axis of the mirror through which paraxial light rays after reflection from the concave mirror \rm pa{s}spass through.

In case of concave mirrors, the focal length is considered to be negative as per sign convention with respect to cartesian co-ordinates.
