The diagram shows a sealed container, which represents a closed system.

How would the system change if the container were placed on a hot plate?

Some kinetic energy would be produced.
Some kinetic energy would be destroyed.
The kinetic energy of the molecules would increase.
The kinetic energy of the molecules would decrease.

The resultant would be:

The kinetic energy of the molecules would increase.

Kinetic energy is the energy possessed by an object due to its motion. It mainly depends on the two variables: Mass and velocity of an object.

When a sealed container gets heated, the movement of the molecules inside it increases and a greater pressure is exerted on the walls of the container, since the volume remains constant( as container is sealed).

Since the molecules move with a greater speed with an increase in temperature( the particles gain momentum ) , the kinetic energy also increases.
