The fence he need to buy is 96 feets

Given:

The backyard is divided into 3 squares

from figure area of 1 square = 144 f²

Sam only wants to fence the outside edge to make one big backyard

To find:

How much fencing will he need to buy

Solution:

From figure area of 144 f²

As we know area of a square = side²

⇒  side²  = 144 f²

⇒  side²  = 12²

⇒ side = 12

One side of square = 12

Syam wants to fence only outside of yard

If we give names to the side of yard as shown figure

the perimeter of yard = AB+BC+CD+DE+ EF + FG + GH + HA

= 8 ( 12)   [∵ all sides are equal ]

= 96 feets

The fence he need to buy is 96 feets
