The dialogue where Shylock, emotionally, points out the similarities between Jews and Christians and says that jews are also human and so they have full right for revenge and etc.
Those words redeem Shylock’s character in the eyes of the audience, they may seem to sympathize with him, but what reaction would the audience show as Shylock appears in Act 3 Scene 3 and Why?

Answer:

Audience would have sympathy on Shylock's character when he emotionally points out the similarities between Jews and Christians and would have pity on him. But we should not forget that he is the same Shylock who had no mercy on Antonio and insisted that he will have his bond and was relentless so words were pointless. He said that he will have his penalty and nothing else. But when he said 'Hath a jew eyes?..........If a Christian wrong a jew, what should his sufference be by Christian example?' , it fills our heart with sympathy for him. However, he showed no sympathy on Antonio and he , too, hated him for his religion and his business. So, he does not deserve sympathy and Portia has done the right by giving half of his property to the state.
