Given:

The diameter of a cylinder is measured using a Vernier caliper with no zero error it is found that does zero of vernier scale lies between 5.10 cm and 5.15 of main scale the vernier scale has 50 division equivalent to 2.45 CM.

To find:

The 24th division of vernier scale exactly coincides with one of the main scale division the diameter of cylinder is

Solution:

From given we have,

The zero of vernier scale lies between 5.10 cm and 5.15 of the main scale

1 MSD = 5.15 - 5.10 = 0.05 cm

The vernier scale has 50 division equivalent to 2.45 cm.

1 VSD = 2.45/50 = 0.049cm

Least count = 1 MSD - 1 VSD

                  = 0.05 - 0.049

                  = 0.001 cm

The 24th division of vernier scale exactly coincides with one of the main scale division

Thus, the diameter = 5.10 + (0.001) × 24 = 5.124 cm

Therefore, the diameter of the cylinder is 5.124 cm
