let the diameter of the earth be x

let the diameter of the earth be x/4

hence, radius of the earth= x/2

radius of the moon = 1/2*x/4 =x/8

ratio of their surface areas = surface area of the moon / surface area of the  earth

=>4π( radius of the moon)² / 4π( radius of the earth) ²

=> (radius of the moon)²/ ( radius of the earth) ²

=>( x/8 )²divided by( x /2)²

= >x²/64 divided by x²/4

=> 4/64

=>1/16

= 1:16
