Surface area =
4\pi {r}^{2}
Diameter of earth = 1
Radius of earth = 1/2
Diameter of moon 1/4
Radius of moon = 1/8

Surface area of earth
\pi \times\frac{1}{2} \times \frac{1}{2} \times 4
equals \: 1\pi
Surface area of moon =
\pi \times \frac{1}{8} \times \frac{1}{8} \times 4
equals \: 16\pi
Ratio = 1:16 (both the pi will get cancelled)
