Neon can't exist as diatomic atom.

Explanation:

Neon is a noble gas with atomic number 10

It have main shell configuration 2, 8

Valence shell of Neon is completely filled and it is octet.

Every atom tries to make it's valence shell octet inorder to be stable.

But noble gas being in 18th group and being the only group having valence shell completely filled, they don't accept or share their electrons with another one or they dont have to exist as diatomic molecule.

So Neon will not form Ne2.

The diatomic species Ne_{2} does not exist butNe^{2-}can exist beforeNeon cannot exist as the diatomic atom.

Explanation:

  • Neon can't exist as a diatomic atom
  • It is a noble gas with atomic number 10 with electronic configuration 2,8
  • The Valence shell of Neon is completely filled and it is octet is filled.
  • Here every atom tries to make its valence shell complete in octet in order to be stable.
  • Noble gas is in the 18th group and being the only group having a valence shell completely filled, they don't accept or share their electrons with another one or they don't have to exist as a diatomic molecule.
  • So Neon will not form Ne_{2}
