Answer:

Given -:

The difference between a two digit number and the number obtained by reversing the digits is 36Also, the sum of digits is 10. Find the number.

To find -:

The number.

Solution -:

  • Let the digit in tens place = x
  • Let the digit in ones place = y

According to the question, the sum of digits is 10.

  • Equation 1 -:

x + y = 10

x = 10 - y

In order to ensure the correct value is given to EACH digit, we need to identify the original number as -:

  • (10digit on tens place + digit on ones place )
  • (10x + y )

and the "swapped digits" number as (10y + x ).

We are asked to find the number -:

Now difference is 36.

  • (10+y)-(10y-x) = 36
  • 10x-x+y-10y = 36
  • 9x - 9y = 36
  • 9(x-y) = 36
  • x - y = 36/9
  • x - y = 4

Now,we get -:

x - y = 4.

We know that x = 10-y

  • x - y = 4
  • 10-y-y = 4
  • 10 - 2y = 4
  • -2y = 4 - 10
  • - 2y = -6
  • y = 6/2
  • y = 3

Now,the value of y is 3.

Now we have to find the value of x.

  • x = 10 - y
  • x = 10 -3
  • x = 7

Original number is 10x + y .

  • 10 × 3 + 7
  • 30 + 7
  • 37

Thus,the original number is 37.
