Answer:

r - g = 10 -------(1)

r+5 =2 (g+5)

r+5 = 2g + 10

r- 2g = 5 ----------(2)

by adding (1) (2)

-3g = 15

g = -5

age will not be negative

g = 5

put in (1)

r-5 = 10

r = 15

hope it helpful to you

Arjun is twice as old as Shriya. Five years ago his age was three times Shriya’s age. What are their present ages.?

Let Arjun be designated as A

Let Shriya be designated as S.

A is twice as old as S

Let S be x years old currently.

Therefore A is 2(x) years old currently.

5 years ago S was ( x - 5 ) years old

5 years ago A was (2(x) - 5) years old

5 years ago A was three times S' age.

That is, 5 years ago, ( 2x - 5 ) = 3( x - 5 )

or

2x - 5 = 3x - 15 so

3x - 2x = -5 + 15 or

x = 10

I stated that S' Current age was x years old. We have now identified x as 10 years old.

A is therefore identified as 2x years old or 20 years old.

Therefore currently Arjun and Shryia are 20 and 10 years old respectively.

PP Note that 5 years ago A was 15 and S was 5, so A was three times S' age.
