Explanation:

Answer:

Given :-

Difference between ages of ravi and Geeta is 10 years

5 years earlier ravi was twice as old as geeta

Solution :-

Let the present age of Ravi be x and Geeta's age will be (x - 10) years.

Now

After 5 years

age of Ravi's = (x - 5) years

age of Geeta's age = 2(x - 10 - 5) years

(x - 5) = 2(x - 10 - 5)

x- 5 = 2x - 20 - 10

2x - x = 20 + 10 - 5

x = 20 + 5

x = 25

Answer:

Arjun is twice as old as Shriya. Five years ago his age was three times Shriya’s age. What are their present ages.?

Let Arjun be designated as A

Let Shriya be designated as S.

A is twice as old as S

Let S be x years old currently.

Therefore A is 2(x) years old currently.

5 years ago S was ( x - 5 ) years old

5 years ago A was (2(x) - 5) years old

5 years ago A was three times S' age.

That is, 5 years ago, ( 2x - 5 ) = 3( x - 5 )

or

2x - 5 = 3x - 15 so

3x - 2x = -5 + 15 or

x = 10

I stated that S' Current age was x years old. We have now identified x as 10 years old.

A is therefore identified as 2x years old or 20 years old.

Therefore currently Arjun and Shryia are 20 and 10 years old respectively.

PP Note that 5 years ago A was 15 and S was 5, so A was three times S' age.
